SmartThings limit

I have just received an email saying that I reached my monthly limit of SmartThings calls.

What is my limit?

Can I increase it?

Thanks

Hi Bob, thanks for reaching out. I’ve given your account a temporary increase to your monthly allowance so your rules can run again while you make some adjustments.

A few things tend to drive usage the most:

  • Fades. Each step of a fade is a separate command to the device, so fading several lights can add up quickly. A single level change, or one fade instead of several, uses far less.
  • Triggers on frequently reporting sensors. Illuminance, power, and temperature sensors can report every few minutes. Checking On Transition Only on the trigger means the rule only runs when the value changes, not on every report.
  • Sending commands that don’t change anything. If a rule sets a light to the same level it’s already at, that still counts. Adding a condition to only send the command when the level is different helps a lot.
  • Multiple triggers for the same rule. If a few different switches can kick off the same rule, it may run more often than you expect.

Your allowance also resets at the start of each month. If you’d like a second set of eyes on a specific rule, feel free to share a screenshot: Rule Screenshot Guide - SharpTools Knowledge Base

Thanks Sam,

Yep, fades and Illuminance checking are what’s killing it. Time to get to work!
