We’re excited to announce the next SharpTools.io platform update which resolves the following feature request:
Any tiles which have a custom dimension set will now retain their dimension even if the underlying Thing is deauthorized and a Placeholder tile is shown. If you tap on the placeholder tile, it will also provide some insights as to common reasons for the placeholder tile and common resolutions.
For Thing tiles that have implicit dimensions (like a Thermostat being 2x1 by default), these tiles will also retain their implied dimensions for any new tiles that are added to your dashboards.

Existing 2x1 Thing Tiles
For any existing tiles with implicit dimensions, you can either explicitly set the dimensions or re-select the tile layout. Then if the underlying Thing is lost, the Placeholder version of the tile will retain the dimensions.

There won’t be any visual change to the tile, but this will cause the ‘layout’ to get stored in the tile configuration so it can be used for determining the implicit dimensions for the Placeholder should it be needed.
As of this release, the only Thing layouts that have default dimensions other than 1x1 are:
- Thermostats
- Music / Media Player
- Weather
