Periodically need to re-authorize to update device status

Periodically (maybe once every month or so?) I see that my SharpTools dashboards aren’t reflecting reality. The most recent occurrence - a door is shown open when it is closed. All of my SharpTools dashboards that have the device on them show it as open, but SmartThings agrees with me that it is closed.

The fix is always to re-authorize all my devices on the hub - as soon as I do that, the particular tile in question goes back to reflecting reality.

Refreshing the dashboard doesn’t help (unsurprising since it’s being displayed wrong on several devices, including Android tablet, iPhone, and Windows PC).

Is there any way to make device status more reliable?

Thanks,
Mike

Welcome to the community, Mike! Thanks for posting and sorry to hear that things aren’t working as expected.

Can you share more details about your setup?

  • What smart home hub is this on?
  • What device and type of integration is it using? (make/model + protocol)
  • Are there certain patterns you’ve seen around the time of the issues?

With something like a door, you could also try physically cycling it through states if the issue occurs again and the reauthorization is burdensome. eg. closed, open, closed with a pause between each physical change

Thanks for the response Josh. I’m using a SmartThings V2 hub. This particular sensor is an Ecolink Door & Window Sensor which uses Z-Wave Plus.

The main concern is if I am away from home and I check the dashboard and see that the door is open. Is it really? I can check SmartThings, but i rarely use that app now that all my devices & automations are set up.

Does SmartThings only send a status change to SharpTools a single time, and does it not re-send the notification if it doesn’t get an acknowledgement back from SharpTools?

Thanks again, Mike
