this might be somewhat similar to allowing super tiles to bring up dimmers (request from March 2022), but a little different.
Right now, when you long press on a light switch with the capability of dimming, if you long press the tile, the dimmer function comes up. There are times I would like to have a long press run a routine, or do something different. For example, right now, I have a super tile which directs to a dashboard for each room in my house. It would be cool if a long press could do a different action, such as turn on the lights in the room only (or anything you set up in a rule, or by choosing a device). Another example is it would be cool if there was a secondary option for hold, which could do a particular action, such as turning off all media players (or something like that)
More than just press and long press would be even better. Swipe up, down, left and right for example. There’s just not a lot of room for multiple buttons on an Iphone. So, if I could label a button “Bedroom” and be able to turn on the lights, turn off the lights or open a dashboard with that room’s lights, it would be great.
As the post is currently written, it reads more like a general request for a long-press action basically across most (all?) tile types.
It sounds like your primary use-cases are with Super Tiles… and with the Super Tile already being a highly configurable tile type, it seems like adding nuanced configuration options like this would reasonably align with the Super Tile ethos.
I’m much more hesitant to tons of knobs and levers to every single tile type as it ends up making the configuration for those tiles more intimidating and feel more complicated (especially for newcomers to the platform). As you alluded to, there’s also potential conflict with native tile types like Lights (dimmable, color), Window Shades, and a few other tiles that have long-press natively enabled.
If the Super Tile Long-Press feature requests gets enough community interest and gets implemented, it could be used for other use-cases involving many other tile types…
Swipe gestures introduce conflicts with scrolling and other native system gestures.
One approach for when you have limited screen real-estate is to open another dashboard when the tile is clicked (either native Dashboard Overlay or most tiles support the Hyperlink Action).
That enables you to have the status of the main device(s) or summary states on the main dashboard, then tap on an item to drill into the detail and expose more controls (eg. other device tiles, custom tiles, etc).
In theory, you could create a Custom Tile that supports swipe gestures. Then maybe open a Dashboard Overlay with just that Custom Tile in it. It would be like being able to tap on the tile to bring up an action swipe pad that you could close when you were done with it.
Personally, I think this type of of functionality just added to Super Tiles would be more than sufficient. If you ever had the need to use a long press for a particular entity linked to a tile, you can simply create a Super Tile to do all the actions you need.
Hopefully there is enough interest here, but I do understand that features are added based upon majority needs.
