Include Hub Name + Device Name in the add to list and display option

Home owners who have multiple homes might want a single dashboard or add multiple devices from the same account.

Example: Owning a home with 5 thermostats and a second home with three might look something like this. Homes with boilers or electric heat have MANY thermostats. We have one with 23 thermostats.

Due to already existing metrics, like graphing them in Influx/Grafana, renaming them to be “Location - Thermostat - Living Room” would be a lot of work and mess up historical data. An option to Display Hub/Location name would be very helpful for homeowners who have multiple properties.

I like this idea, having a hubitat at home and a cabin, i’ve been putting location initials in front of the devices names in hubitat so I can figure out which location its from when loaded to Sharptools. Otherwise several names would be duplicated on things like “Front Door”, etc…

Alternatively in the “Add Item” menu add a separate “Things” menu for each Hub/Location and labeled as so.

I thought of renaming the devices like @kampto, but I already have years worth of data in InfluxDB and pretty much once I name a device, it stays that way in InfluxDB.

We also have 2 locations. We’re managing, but this would be so much easier and user-friendly.

Really need this, or:

  • A way to identify which hub a thing belongs to when building a dashboard
  • A way to rename the things from the account section

This is my biggest pain point in the 4 years I’ve been using sharp tools, it stops me from adding new things to my dashboards.

Im seeing this in BETA Super Tiles / Guage / add Thing. This would be great on the main dash add things and every other things menu. They are separated by Hub Name. Just like the request.

I believe you are referring to the dedicated Thing Picker which is used by Super Tiles for Icons > Thing Icon in production as well as the beta Gauges. It’s the same Thing Picker used in several places in the Rule Engine as well.

Note that the context is quite different. It’s only a list of Things. The picker referred to in this thread is the main ‘Add Item’ picker which has a mix of different resource types and can search and filter across all of those resource types.

We resorted to just naming things with the hub name.

We have a single dashboard with items from 10 different hubs all called Garage. So the devices are now named:

123MS - Garage
456RS - Garage
789BS - Garage
MS = Main Street, RS = River Street, BS = Blake Street
