Freezer Temperature Sensor

I’d like to set up an alarm when a freezer gets over a certain temperature. Most of the temperature sensors have problems with being in a steel box and the batteries have problems with the temperature. I think I need something with a probe. The probe should have a very thin wire because I need it to go under or through the gasket rather than drilling a hole in the side of the freezer. Has anyone found a product that works in this scenario?

Yes, but not with a probe cable connected.

My seven Zigbee Aeotec water sensors are doing extremely well. Lithium(!) batteries, 3 volt, last at least a year. https://aeotec.com/products/aeotec-water-leak-sensor/

No cables needed. They are on four different locations. Some quite far away from the SmartThings router. Do not have to be near the freezers door. In the middle, in between the frozen products is mostly OK.

Here is the rule (In Dutch). I also made a variable $temperature, so the message shows the actual temperature of the freezers sensor.

(I also hear good news in Reddit about Aqara temp sensors working nice below-20)

If you are interested, I currently use Mocreo Sensor system to monitor fridge and freezers. These use a prob on a 4 foot flat wire that plugs into the transmitter. I have found them to be both accurate, reliable and inexpensive too. I bought them off Amazon. Now I haven’t finished testing them with a driver and app that I have built but if you are interested in the driver and app code I have uploaded them to GitHub - TimWood2881/Mocreo-Temp-sensors-for-Hubitat: temp · GitHub

There are created via Claude AI coder and my efforts to adjust code as needed.

Obviously, there is no point in using this code if you don’t buy the sensor and hub system and run both the hubs (HUbitat and Mocreo) on the same network. Nice part is that as a Hubitat user, you should prefer an offline, no internet required solution.

I can’t stress enough that this code is not yet tested. I will be doing so over the next few weeks. BUT, the app that Mocreo has is great.

can you, at least, respond to the answers given here?

@MikeS tagging you in case you didn’t see the responses above.

you could use this Sonoff zigbee sensor which has a Sonoff SNZB-02LD probe

I have an Aotec AerQ. It works well. But, the battery’s at 60% after a few days. The last battery showed 1% within a few weeks. It quit working a while after that. In Sharptools, it’s difficult to distinguish between working at 1% and not working at 1% unless you go to Hubitat to see when it last updated. Maybe there’s a way to get Last Updated into Sharptools and I just haven’t found it.
The Mocreo looks interesting. But, I don’t have the time right now to work out the kinks of getting it integrated.
I ordered the Sonoff sensor. It looks pretty close to what I’m looking for. This will be my first attempt at Zigbee. The picture seems to show a big wire. But, photos can be misleading. Hopefully, it will be thin enough for the gasket to still seal.
