I hope this is not something that is about to cause major issues across SharpTools…
Earlier today I added 1 ZOOZ Wall Switch. It went in and included without issue. About an hour later I went to SharpTools to refresh my devices as I now had a new device. All went without issue, at least thats what I thought. While adding the new device to a dashboard I noticed almost every device now had a “1” after their names in my device list. I immediatley went into SmartThings and sure enough, almost every device now has a “1” after it. I then went to a dashboard and wanted to see if the devices were there and if they would work. They are there and they are working. Anyone else notice this? Since the names changed I am surprised they are working. Is this going to cause a problem???
I wouldn’t expect it to cause functional issues in SharpTools if it was only a name change.
Unique Identifiers
Internally, SharpTools uses a unique combination of the platform, location ID, and device ID for displaying devices on dashboards as well as when sending commands from dashboards or rules. So as long as the device itself remained the same instance and it was just the name that changed, there shouldn’t be any concerns.
New Device ID (Cloud-to-Cloud Example)
There would be a concern if the device instance changed. For example, if you had a device connected to SmartThings with a cloud integration and somehow that cloud integration was completely disconnected (eg. manually disconnecting it), then when you create a new cloud-to-cloud connection with SmartThings, those devices might show up with completely new device identifiers and that would also cause SharpTools to see them as new distinct / separate devices.
SmartThings Community Thread
I saw that you created a thread in the SmartThings community about the devices getting the 1 appended to their name. If you end up getting some insights into what happened, I’d be interested in hearing about it!
