SharpTools and Echo Show 15

I believe any recent generation Fire TV remote.

I got the APK downloaded. I can get as far as clicking the install button (via a file manager) but it does not seem to actually install.

I will keep playing.

Got it running …

I’ve not used Fully before so I need to play around with the features and settings.

Nice! Any special tricks to be aware of?

Not really. Just follow the instructions out there to the letter. I had initially put the file in a ‘Downloader’ folder. The Echo will only install from the ‘Download’ folder.

It does look like ‘wake on camera’ is disabled for Android TV which is disappointing.

Does it take over the whole Show 15 like the other Fire tablets. It would be cool to still have the functionality of the 15 and be able to bring up the dashboard when I need it. I currently have a 15 hanging on my wall with a Fire 8 underneath for SharpTools. I would be nice if I could combine the two.

It stays on Fully until you swipe down to get the Echo menu from where you can access the Echo functionality as normal.

Looks like santa’s going to have to add one more thing to his bag for my house! :santa::grin:

Is it possible to do it the other way around. Have my normal show 15 screen up and then swipe down for the sharptools dashboard.

I don’t believe so. The Fully app is launched as an app from within the FireTV app interface. Even if Fully was running when you return to the Echo Home screen, returning to the FireTV app brings you back to the FireTV Home, not Fully.

Ok, so I will still need my current setup of my Show 15 and a Fire 8 tablet underneath for my SharpTools dashboard. Too bad.

As Nezmo mentioned, I don’t think there’s an ‘official’ way to do this… nor where the webpage is displayed as a Show Widget.

I’ve seen comments from other people where they setup an Alexa Routine which uses a Custom command where you can type what you would normally say to Alexa and they enter “open Silk” which will reopen the Silk browser to whatever webpage was previously displayed.

For example, you might have a motion sensor and when it changes to active, have it trigger the Routine. Or perhaps even a physical button and when it’s pushed, have it trigger the Routine.

Or even just say, “Alexa, Open Silk” out loud. Or maybe swipe down from the top, tap Routines, then tap your routine but that’s a lot of taps!

Edit: On a similar note, I’ve also played around with just opening SharpTools in Silk and then making the dashboard fullscreen and it has stayed that way for 20+ minutes… so I’m not sure if the Fire TV update has improved that or what.

Interesting. I will take a look at this.

After launching Silk with an Alexa voice command, it stayed open for somewhere between 15-20 minutes before going back to the Show display.

Then I tried launching it again manually from the ‘Internet’ icon on the Fire TV interface and touched the ... in the bottom right and selected fullscreen and it only lasted 10 minutes… so I’m not sure what I had done differently the first time where Silk stayed up for more than 20 minutes.

I suppose more testing is needed.

Edit: Also just realizing that I had Fully Kiosk installed when I was testing and it went 20 minutes. I then uninstalled Fully Kiosk as I was testing a simpler installation approach so I’m wondering if it might have been Fully Kiosk running in the background that helped it ‘stay awake’.

Edit2: Reinstalling Fully Kiosk and using that for displaying the dashboard, things have stayed open for 30+ minutes. It looks like Fully Kiosk has a default Keep Awake setting that probably prevents the Show screen saver… so I’m still wondering if maybe Fully Kiosk running in the background might have impacted my earlier Silk tests.

It would be cool if it could run in a widget. Tap on the dashboard, do your thing, and then it goes back to normal

What features do you use from Show Mode that you feel are missing from your dashboards?

I use the show as it was intended. I have my calendar, shopping list, to-do list, and my main communication board for my family. There is a smart widget by default with the show but it is super kludegy.

Starting to move forward with this. A bit of pain though as all my dashboards are designed for iPad screen ratios and the Show is 16:9. I’m creating alternate versions of my dashes where necessary to avoid scrolling on the Show.

I like scrolling for my purpose. At first load, a greeting (which covers the screen) is revealed to welcome my guests. They need to scroll up to reveal the dashboard.

Here is the dashboard, The bottom row gets cut off on mac, but looks great on echo show 15.

I’ve had a couple of instances where the Show 15 has been left on the Fully app and after some time the Show is reverting to the Echo Home screen. I’m not sure how long yet before that happens.

I currently have the Fully app going to screensaver (black screen) after 5 minutes.
