Confused with my If Condition rule

I’m trying to set a rule so that if my doorbell detects motion, it will turn on the front porch light with the condition that it will only do so between sunset and sunrise.

This is my rule but somehow it doesn’t work. My light won’t turn on. Any idea why?

The time can’t simultaneously be after sunset and before sunrise.

You would need to switch it to an OR condition (any).

t’s one of those “head scratchers” where visualizing it sometimes helps.

So in the original example, it’s not possible for the time (on a single day) to be both after sunset AND before sunrise, so we have to use OR:

In your example, the time we are looking for is between two times on the same day, so we use AND:

Ah ha…I understand now. I didn’t account for the fact that after 12 a.m., it is considered as the next day. Thank you for the visual explanation. That helped a lot.
