The SharpTools SMS sender number will be changed on Sunday, May 12th 2019.
There is no action needed for users. Users who currently have SMS notification configured in Rule Engine will start to receive SMS messages from these new numbers automatically. This change is due to Verizon’s upcoming changes to message filtering for application-to-person messages, and is expected to improve SMS message delivery in general.
That being said, while we expect the delivery to be improved, users should still follow the guideline below when setting up SMS notification to prevent your message being filtered by the carriers, such as AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, due to their spam detection.
1. Limit the use of URLs in your messages
URLs are often considered marketing content - especially shortened URLs like Bitly - and are frequently filtered by carriers’ spam dection
2. Be careful how frequent the message will be sent
Repeated messages within a short period may be considered as spam and filtered by your carrier. Be cautious with SMS notifications triggered by frequent events, such as motion, in Rule Engine. Depending on where your camera/motion sensor is installed, it may get many repeated or false alarms within a few minutes.
Thank you for your support!
PS. Note that we may add additional sender numbers in the future. If you have any automations setup that expect a specific number, please note that these numbers may change in the future.
